Luke 13:23-24
Someone asked him, "Lord, will only a few people be saved?" He answered them, "Strive to enter through the narrow door, for many, I tell you, will attempt to enter but will not be strong enough."
Have you even been leisurely cruising down the highway and hit some traffic seemingly out of nowhere? This is sometimes the result of an accident but other times it can happen because of road construction (something we're all too familiar with here in Tampa Bay). When that 3-lane highway gets squeezed down to one lane, there will inevitably be some traffic. It can be frustrating but if you know the road you're on is the best way to get you where you're going you just keep slow-rolling until it clears up. The one-lane slog is similar to the narrow gate described in these verses. In our spiritual life, living out God's call can be frustrating. We sometimes stray from the Way and try to find another way: our own way. But we soon learn that road will not take us where we need to go, it won't take us to Him. Pushing towards that narrow gate is difficult but there is unimaginable glory on the other side for those who persevere.
