The Gift of Unanswered Prayers

By Fernando
Over the years, I've become convinced that my life would be an absolute disaster if I got every single thing I've ever prayed for. Ok, that's a little dramatic...

Acts 3:5-6

He paid attention to them, expecting to receive something from them. Peter said, "I have neither silver nor gold, but what I do have I give you: in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazorean, [rise and] walk."

Over the years, I've become convinced that my life would be an absolute disaster if I got every single thing I've ever prayed for. Ok, that's a little dramatic. Let's say that my life would be not nearly as full or joyful. We're often really good at knowing what we want; that raise, that job, that car, that relationship, etc. However, we're generally pretty bad at knowing what we need, at least in a specific sense. The man begging in front of the temple was asking for alms in these verses. Peter and John offered him none. I imagine the man may have been kind of frustrated, at least for a moment, when he realized he wasn't going to get what he wanted from the disciples. But they had something even greater for him, something he never expected, something he wasn't asking them for; healing. Many times in our lives, we can't see what God's plan has in store for us or why He's not giving us what we ask. But rest assured that these "unanswered prayers" are blessings we may not recognize until we meet God face-to-face in Heaven.
