Luke 6:12-13
In those days he departed to the mountain to pray, and he spent the night in prayer to God. When day came, he called his disciples to himself, and from them he chose Twelve
"Sleep on it." It's great advice! Before you make any big purchase, in order to ensure that it's not an impulse buy, waiting a good 24 hours is a smart move. Not only do we put the impulse on the back burner, we have now spent sometime investing in our own decision making skills.
Jesus knew this was a good idea too. But he wasn't taking the time to make a pros and cons list, he was talking to and listening to his Father. When you have a big decision to make, do you call your go-to person and check in for 30 seconds, explain the situation and then hang up? No way! Yet, that's how we treat God when it comes to our choices.
Let's all make it a practice to involve God in our thoughts about everyday decisions - even the tiny ones. We can just say a quick prayer, "Lord may your ways be my ways." Then when it comes to those big decisions, we will be comfortable sitting in his presence, (even overnight!) and trusting that He will lead us in the right direction.
