John 14:6

Jesus said to him, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

One of the paradoxes that mankind faces was given to us by God himself, that being free will.  We want to do things our way, but God knows we'll probably mess them up.  He knows we'll sin before we do.  Many times we don't even know it until it's too late.  Pride is one of the biggest sins.  One of Frank Sinatra's most popular songs was, "My Way."  In the song, he thinks back on his life and reflects that he did things on his own terms.  Sure he made mistakes, but he wants the listener to know that he lived life on his terms, and no one was going to get in his way.  But in this world, there are so many people who are lost and trying to find their way in this world.  Often they put their trust in other people or things that may not have the answers.

The answer lies with a life in Christ.  Scriptures reveal a number of references to the way, or traveling (I am the Way, the narrow gate, the road less traveled, etc).  In today's gospel, Thomas asks Jesus about where Jesus is going.  Jesus answers him with a broader, deeper answer.  "I am the way." A simple message for sure, but one that we often forget.  When you face a difficult decision today or in the near future, remember who is really in charge.  Open your heart and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you.  After all Jesus says in all things, "I am the way the truth and the life."
