Ephesians 1:17
Brothers and sisters: May the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation, resulting in knowledge of him.
Wisdom and revelation result in knowledge of Him. Not the other way around. We don't begin spiritually knowing all about Jesus, the Father, the Holy Spirit. There are thousands of pages written by the early Church Fathers and saints about the mystery of the Trinity, of the Ascension, of Heaven, of forgiveness. When I read the writings of St Thomas Aquinas, I begin to question whether or not I even have the vocabulary to comprehend what he wrote.
We are a part of a time when knowledge of the world around us is at our fingertips with the Internet and mass media. Or is it? Is it always accurate and true? Does all that information make us more wise and reveal why we are here?
We can read, check into our news feeds and Facebook and Twitter but is all that making us more wise? Praying makes us spiritually wise, attending church, and seeking answers from a trusted spiritual guide can reveal to us the deeper meaning of why we are here and who God has called us to be. Check Pope Francis on Twitter and Instagram. He is a very inspiring spiritual guide. These are ways we can get more spiritually knowledgable.
