It's My Time

By John Morris
Times are difficult for many of us. Every night we....

Acts 1:6-7

When they had gathered together they asked him, "Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?"  He answered them, "It is not for you to know the times or seasons that the Father has established by his own authority."

Times are difficult for many of us.  Every night we come home, watch the evening news and see countries at war, refugees looking for hope, innocents killed for political gain.  For some this fighting has gone on for centuries.  Right here in America, we have our own battles.  Battles with prejudice, discrimination and financial oppression. Many believe our morality is going down the tubes.  We have turned away from God.  So what are we to do?  Most of us turn our prayers to God asking, "When will things get better?"

In today's reading, the Jews have been persecuted or harassed by the Romans, Babylonians, Egyptians, etc.  The disciples have come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the chosen one who has come to lift the Jews out of their oppression and restore their kingdom.  Jesus did, but not in the manner that they were asking.  His restoration is for a greater kingdom.  Most of us cannot control things that are out of our control.  It leaves us to worry.  But if we turn our worries over to God, with the understanding that God will take care of everything in HIS time, not ours, then our lives might be less complicated.  We should pray daily for patience and open our hearts for God's will in our lives and guidance in our decisions so that his will might be accomplished through us.
