."blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you"
Lk 14:14
They say parenthood gives us the opportunity to become saints. Ok, I say that. Because when we raise children, they have do not often have the opportunity to repay us for the sacrifices we make. They will not remember the long nights or the times we had to miss work to get them to their appointments when they were ill, or when they needed something done for them at school.
We willingly make changes to our busy schedules when the need is there for our family members and close friends. What if those of us who could change our schedules, changed them to help someone in need in the community? Either by mentoring a teen at a high school, or volunteering at a food bank, or asking what needs there are at our churches?
The theme of this Sunday's readings is clear: be humble, and ask yourself where you are needed, and know that you will be loved there, even if that kind of love doesn't bring you instant gratification.
