Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for fine pearls. When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it.

 

Ask any Christian what the most valuable thing in their life is and you'll likely find a lot of them give the same answer: their relationship with God. I know that's the answer I would give if asked. It's easy to understand the concept of putting God first in our lives but it's much harder to live according to that belief. I know I struggle with truly giving up everything that would stand in the way of growing that relationship. I want to hold onto some sin or bad habit I know I should 'sell' for the sake of the Gospel. The root of this is often a lack of trust in God. So, if you struggle with truly trusting God totally, pray for that trust today. Remember, the Christian life is a journey. Don't be discouraged if you fail to truly live up to the merchant's example in the Gospel. By the grace of God, we'll get there!
