(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis on Thursday presided at the Mass of the Lord’s Supper beginning the Triduum, or three days, that culminate in the Easter Vigil and the celebration of Our Lord’s Resurrection on Sunday.This year, the Pope chose to celebrate Our Lord’s Supper with the traditional washing of the feet at a temporary welcome centre for refugees and asylum-seekers located on the northern outskirts of Rome.His decision to wash the feet of the refugees has been welcomed by many activists and human rights groups calling for a political solution to the migrant crisis in Europe.Argentinean Oscar Soria is senior media campaigner with the online activist movement Avaaz, which will be presenting a petition with over a million signatures to a UNHCR meeting in Geneva next week.Soria told Philippa Hitchen he believes the Pope’s gesture sends a very important message to world leaders attending next week’s summit.Listen: 
(Vatican Radio) Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko says he is ready to exchange prisoners with Russia to secure the release of a Ukrainian pilot who was sentenced to a long prison term. (Vatican Radio) Former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic was convicted of genocide and nine other charges at a U.N. court today and sentenced to 40 years in prison.The Yugoslav war crimes tribunal found Karadzic guilty of orchestrating Serb atrocities throughout Bosnia's 1990s war that left 100,000 people dead.The court found him criminally responsible for genocide in the 1995 Srebrenica massacre, as well as for overseeing the deadly 44-month siege of the Bosnian capital, Sarajevo.The top UN human rights official welcomed the verdict, saying it showed that that even powerful perpetrators of such crimes "must know that they will not escape justice".Zeid Ra'ad Al-Hussein said in a statement that Karadzic’s trial "should give pause to leaders across Europe and elsewhere who seek to exploit nationalist sentiments and scapegoat minorities".
