Father Gary Dowsey was born in London,
England. He was
ordained to the Priesthood on July 12th
1980 at St. Mary's
Church, Great Yarmouth, situated on the east coast of England. His
first appointment was as an assistant priest to the parish of Our Lady
and the
English Martyrs in Cambridge.
In 1983 he became the private secretary to the Bishop of East Anglia, a
position he held for six years. During this time he was also Diocesan
Communications Officer, Chaplain to the University
of East Anglia and priest in charge of
the parish of the Annunciation, Poringland, Norwich. In 1989 he
established a new parish,
dedicated to St. Luke, in the city of Peterborough.
In 1994 Father Gary moved to Bristol
and worked in High School ministry. 1997 brought him closer to his
hometown of London as assistant priest to the Cathedral parish of St.
Mary and St. Helen, Brentwood, Essex. This
appointment included the position of Catholic Chaplain to the
University in Chelmsford. After twenty
years in the priesthood Father Gary was granted a sabbatical which
brought him
to the United States.
After serving nearly three years at St. James in Port Richey and one
year at
Nativity in Brandon,
he applied to be incardinated into the Diocese of St. Petersburg. This
was
granted in January 2007 while he was serving at St. Jerome,
Indian Rocks Beach.
Father Gary was appointed Pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes on July 1st
2007.
