Hurricane Season 2013

Hurricane season is here. Click for some tips and resources to help you prepare.

Hurricane season has arrived. Your Spirit FM wants you and your family to be prepared. You can ward off some of the danger if you are prepared. These suggestions will help you stay ahead of the storm:

  • Have a supply of nonperishable food on hand. Focus on high-nutrition foods that require no refrigeration, preparation or cooking and little or no water.
  • Stock up on bottled water. Beware of spoiled and contaminated food and water. Figure on a gallon of drinking water per person per day.
  • Review your homeowner's insurance policy, and take inventory of your property.
  • Have enough supplies to board up windows or attach storm shutters.
  • Ready your flashlights to avoid candle use.

In the case of a storm:

  • If you have evacuated, only return when notified that it is safe to do so.
  • Watch for downed power lines.
  • Fill your car's gas tank.
  • Get extra cash (ATMs may lose power).
  • Use a radio, weather radio and other news outlets to get information
  • Report safety hazards to authorities if possible.
