What is Your Mission?

By John Morris
How do we know if it's the Holy Spirit speaking to us or....

Luke 1:17

He will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah to turn the hearts of fathers toward children and the disobedient to the understanding of the righteous, to prepare a people fit for the Lord."

Today the Church remembers the Nativity of John the Baptist.  This story is a very important one in the narrative of the birth of Jesus.  John's birth is the start of a special mission he has for the church and the salvation of the people of God.  This was God's plan for his life.

God has a plan for all of us.  We don't always understand or know what that plan is but we should be open to the promptings of the Holy Spirit to guide us in that direction.  But how do we know if it's the Holy Spirit speaking to us or our own ego or outside forces?  We always should turn to prayer and discernment.  At our baptism, we all are called to be a servant of God.  We wash away our old, sinful self to be with God.  Life is a journey of faith.  At the twilight of our lives, I hope to look back with a sense of thankfulness, arriving at that destination of understanding of what my life was really about.  We all have a mission in this life.  John had his.  Jesus had his.  What is your mission?
