Trustworthiness

By Elle
The little lies and fabrications will eventually trip us up.  Or will they?

"The person who is trustworthy in very small matters is also trustworthy in great ones; and the person who is dishonest in very small matters is also dishonest in great ones."

Luke 16:10

The little lies and fabrications will eventually trip us up.  Or will they?  With the interent and social media so pervasive in our daily lives, I think we miss opportunities to sit and reflect on what we read online to determine whether or not it is even true.  I have been dismayed at the political process that is happening now with candidates shifting positions from one day to the next and presenting an image on one form of media (cable news, for example) only to shift the image slightly but deceptively on another form of media (say, twitter).

The word of God in scriptures has been consistent for thousands of years.  So if I may sum up what I am reflecting on today?  The one who lies every once in a while, maybe when "in a bind" or in distress, or impulsively, but who is regretful, who admits mistakes, and who makes amends, is, well, human, and forgiven when they ask for forgiveness, and loved.  The ones who lie consistently with no regret, with false accusations, and no remorse, are, well, not to be trusted.  Let us learn to discern the value of the spoken word, and consider there is not anything more powerful than the spoken word.  It can bring peace or start conflict. Words can unite or cause division, and words can speak life and love.  Let those be our words and may we be trustworthy in even the small matters.
