The Struggle To Immediately Obey

By Elle
It seems there is conflict everywhere, even in our homes, workplace, our schools. There is the tension from a wariness to immediately obey...

Luke 5:5

Simon said in reply, "Master, we have worked hard all night and have caught nothing, but at your command I will lower the nets."

Where is that type of obedience found today?  It seems there is conflict everywhere, even in our homes, workplace, our schools. There is the tension from a wariness to immediately obey. When we don't want to get the "short end of a deal" or to be left out, or to make the wrong decision.  There is a struggle to obey the rules, social norms, the laws, even the expectations of our parents or bosses.

There was a (probably fictional) story I would pass on to the kids. There was a dad driving the minivan full of kids on a beautiful winding road and suddenly ahead the dad saw something that the kids in the back could not.  The dad said calmly, "Exit the car from the left side immediately. Now"  He car slowed just enough and the kids bailed out. The dad jumped out too and as they all ran back the car was destroyed.  (Don't ask for details you can add them yourself but the story made the point to the kids). If even one child had hesitated to obey the father, even when it didn't immediately make sense, they all would have been compromised and in grave danger.

Let's take a moment and consider "dropping everything" for someone we love today, someone we are struggling with. Change the schedule around, and do something spontaneous.  Sit a few extra minutes with someone to whom you feel called to reach out. Even if that someone is Jesus.
