Luke 13: 18-19
Then he said, "What is the kingdom of God like? To what can I compare it? It is like a mustard seed that a person took and planted in the garden. When it was fully grown, it became a large bush and 'the birds of the sky dwelt in its branches.'"
As we get closer to Election Day we hear about poll numbers, how many people gathered at rallies and what kind of coverage the media is giving to each candidate. There is definitely a be louder, be bigger mentality in the county right now.
But here's Jesus, telling us that the tiniest of seeds can lead to a large bush that not only can maintain itself, but also provide a space for the birds. I heard an interesting tidbit from Sr. Ann Shields - with most seeds, if not all, the first shoot that comes out is part of the root system. It's not one that leads to fruit or anything that appears above the surface. It's all reinforcing the foundation, life and security of the plant. What a beautiful lesson for us all. With the tiniest bit of faith, we can do great things, but in those great things, we must always build on the foundation of Jesus Christ. Whether it's our marriage, a business, raising our children or changing our country.
