"Strengthen the weakness in my mind".  I love that line from the new We Are Messengers song "Magnify."  As I muddle through the stifling heat, the heat dome as the NWS has it termed, it is easy to become irritated and impatient . Like this gospel passage, I feel "sleepy" in the heat and I can imagine this enemy sower slipping anxious and irritating thoughts in my conscience.  

While we continue to pray for peace, an impatient heart that is easily irritated is not the best "sowing ground" for god's grace.  After prayer, I realized the need to adapt to the heat to prevent problems like feeling irritable and impatient. Physically, I changed my workouts. During the hottest hours of day I make sure the kids and pets are comfortable. We plan errands differently, and cut down on "needless" short trips. It may sound simple but that is a big change for someone like me who keeps such a tight schedule. Spiritually, we are remembering to say grace because we are grateful for our meals together while everyone is home for the summer.

Why? Because by adapting and shaking my routine around a little, I feel refreshed and better able to handle the unexpected, and the heat.  And a bonus? We potted a couple of new flowering plants that actually thrive in the heat. At least something does  :D
