Acts 13:3
Then, completing their fasting and prayer,  they laid hands on them and sent them off. 

For years now this time of year I have been playing songs on the Saturday morning Kids Kingdom show for families with graduates. This year, two of my children (now all grown up) graduated last month. I pray and will continue to pray that they remain faithful, courageous, steadfast in their faith, and I want to encourage them in their life's choices.  As parents we want to think our children are special, that our prayers will keep them safe and prevent anything bad from happening to them. Yet we live in a fallen world, a world full of temptations, and we see the consequences of sin all around us. 

So what can we do? Pray and fast and lay our hands on them to reassure them they are loved for who exactly who they are and who they become. Send them out as these apostles were sent to "remain faithful to the Lord with firmness  of heart" (Acts 11:23) and reassure them they are loved not only by us as parents with all of our imperfections, but even more so by God, the author of life and love.
