Pass It On!

By Elle
There is difference in being childish and childlike..

Jesus said, "Let the children come to me and do not prevent them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."
Matthew 19:14-15

There is difference in being childish and childlike. Childishness (try saying that 3 times) is cranky, pouts, holds grudges, and is selfish. To be childlike is to trust readily, forgive easily, and to share equally.  I have worked with kids and we sit at a table, usually after a fun rowdy game, and I have them make their own favorite sundae ice cream. I make sure to provide lots of different choices in toppings, and before anyone takes a bite, I have them pass their dessert to the left.  Most are surprised and maybe a bit hesitant, but I have not seen one not pass theirs on, because of course they are also receiving one from the person on the right of them.  Next we say a prayer of thanksgiving and before anyone takes a first bite, I have everyone pass theirs back to the right, to one who originally made it.  Food allergies aside of course, what I've seen is that the kids are much more wiling to share than I suspected and while they eat they are also more willing to taste each other's desserts in fun. Just that one act of passing the dessert to another makes the individual desserts seem more like a community treat.
