"He (Ezra the priest) read out of the book from daybreak till midday, in the presence of the men, women, and those children old enough to understand;
I recently aired two interviews on the Kid's Kingdom. One person is a theatre instructor at Patel Conservatory and he said that when he was 8 years old he knew he wanted to be a performer. In fact he talked about how much he liked the slapstick comedy of clowns. The other person is "Timon" on the Broadway musical Lion King and he knew he wanted to be a story teller and an actor at the same age, 8. Wow . I was playing either In a pool or on the beach at 8, and I cannot remember any such definitive calling.
Catholics typically receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion at age 8, or 2nd grade because that's generally called the age of reason, of understanding the difference between right and wrong. Do you know a child of that age? What if we took the time to ask a young child what their dreams are today. What they want to be when they are older, and ask them how they see God in their lives both now and how they think God will be in their lives in the future. Children can have very strong convictions and if we help them to talk about their beliefs and convictions, maybe they will hear God calling them to the plan He has set for them and follow it.
