2 Corinthians 4:11
For we who live are constantly being given up to death for the sake of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh.
I had the privilege of hearing Fr. Justin Paskert form USF speak at East Hillsborough Theology On Tap the other night. He spoke about our identity in Christ. One of the things he mentioned that stood out to me was "nature abhors a vacuum". This idea that emptiness always needs to be filled has intrigued me for years. It seems like our whole life is spent trying to fill that vacuum. We fill it with wants and needs, money and things, love and hate. The trick is to stop filling the empty spaces ourselves and allow Jesus to fill them up instead. Paul tells us how to do that, by dying to self constantly. How can we create that vacuum for God today? Maybe you can surprise your spouse by doing the dishes without being asked. Maybe you can spend some time in prayer for someone you know. Look for ways to empty yourself so that Jesus can fill you up again.
