Mold Me Like Clay

By John Morris

Jeremiah 18:4

Whenever the vessel of clay he was making turned out badly in his hand, he tried again, making another vessel of whatever sort he pleased.

Today's Old Testament reading is on the famous "Potter and Clay" story.  The symbolism is that God is the potter and we are the clay.  The clay is on the wheel and is formed by however the potter wants his creation to be.

We have been taught that we are all made in the image and likeness of God. This begs the question, "But if God is perfect, then why do I have so many imperfections."  One answer could be sin or genes…but that's the easy way out.  When I look at myself in the mirror, there is a lot I don't like.  We all see flaws in ourselves when we look in the mirror.  But what about those flaws in our hearts?  Those are the ones that can be the most damaging.  However, if we remember that Jesus is the potter and we are the clay, then there is a good chance to remake ourselves.  You see, even if we are flawed, if we are open to change in our lives by letting Jesus work in us and through us, then we can be formed into the person God really wants us to be.  Open your heart today and let Him mold you into the best person you can be for God, for your family and for your community!
