Man vs. God

By John Morris
When a person goes through the teenage years, it can be...

Acts 5:29-30

But Peter and the apostles said in reply, "We must obey God rather than men. The God of our ancestors raised Jesus, though you had him killed by hanging him on a tree."

When a person goes through the teenage years, it can be a challenging time.  By now you've generally learned right from wrong.  At the same time, you're wanting to get out of the shadow of your parents and make your own decisions.  There are many temptations and many go against God's laws.  Those temptations are often presented in the guise of friends and acquaintances who try to entice you to do things of the world and not what's right in the eyes of God.  That dilemma often causes a lot of stress. Those decisions can shape our future and our outlook on the world.  It can also affect our decision-making in adulthood and as a professional in the work world.  Sometimes our values are compromised and we make bad decisions based on advice of others vs what is in our heart to know what is right.  Ultimately if decisions are made and brought through to a point where there was no pride, malice, vice, or other sinful action, but instead is done with purity and true agape love, then it will be a right decision.  Otherwise the basis of the decision may not be the desired outcome.

Jesus's followers faced these same challenges.  This was all in the mix of the local politics, personal beliefs and what God desired of them.  Tough, life-changing decisions indeed. We often face these same kind of challenges in our family life and in our workplace.  What does God want out of this situation?  Am I making this decision because of pride, how I feel, or what is best for God, to honor him?  In all of our decisions today, make sure that you obey God and his laws, vs. compromising them in the prideful wishes of others or yourself.
