Mark 4:38-39
Jesus was asleep, in the stern on a cushion. They woke him and said to him, "Teacher do you not care that we are perishing?"
What do we do when God doesn't answer our prayers? It is as if He slumbers away not paying attention. When Jesus seems to sleep, when our prayers go unanswered, and we become fearful and afraid, have you ever wanted to shout out angrily? "Wake up! And Hear Me!"
God does hear you and me. It seems like He doesn't respond sometimes, but in faith we know he hears our prayers and will respond in love and in His Way. He hears us when we complain incessantly in prayer, when we despair, when we don't pray because we are angry at not getting what we think is best for us. He knows our needs.
The silence of the sleeping Jesus is very powerful. Praying about it can teach us to live through trials by relying on faith and trust. We must understand this, otherwise we might pray with only fear, insecurity, and bitterness. Let's try to live in a few moments of total silence today, knowing that God is with us.
