Expect Success, Include God

By Elle
I spent a lot of time last week looking at the power of positive thinking and at what it means to expect a positive outcome.

Matthew 8:15
Jesus said to the centurion, "You may go, as you have believed it will be done for you.  At that very hour, his servant was healed.

I spent a lot of time last week looking at the power of positive thinking and at what it means to expect a positive outcome. "Failure is not an option" is on a tshirt my child wears, and "Expect success" is on a fridge magnet.

In today's reading, the centurion expected that his servant would be healed from terrible suffering. He expected a successful outcome.  Also in this honorable centurion's anticipation, he recognized with humility and his unworthiness to have Jesus, God, enter his house.  He may not have even been Jewish, but none of this stopped the man from compassionately asking for a cure.

This man's humility and compassion give me an opportunity to rethink how I expect the successes and achievements in my life. Do I think of success only in terms of a reward that I deserved?  A goal that I reach with my own designs, not including prayer and asking God, not petitioning those I love for prayers?  I tend to be an "I can go about this all by myself" kind of person, but that sometimes can leave out God.  And leaving out God is not my intention and not in my plans.
