Do As I Do

John 13:14-15

"If I, therefore, the master and teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash one another's feet. I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for you, you should also do."

Today we begin the Holy Triduum, the most sacred time in the church calendar.  For me, it is one of the most apparent times when Jesus shows his true humanity, yet also being true God.  Holy Thursday is the occasion when we see Jesus begin his countdown to Calvary.  He knowingly sits at the same table as his conspirer, yet he still teaches.  He uses every moment of his life as an example for you and I to learn.

After dinner, Jesus begins his Last Supper discourse by washing the feet of his disciples.  During that time, it was custom that even a slave was not required to wash his master's feet, yet Jesus himself washes the feet of those that serve and will be called to assist him in his ministry after the crucifixion. They have come to understand that Christ is the master, yet he serves them. Peter questions this, but Jesus teaches that we are all called to humble service for one another.  How do you serve the community, your coworkers, your family, or your church?  If you do serve, is it a "token service" or do you roll up your sleeves and really "get dirty."  When you're in doubt of how much you should serve, remember that Jesus, the son of God, did what no one else would.  Will you walk that walk too?
