Armor of God

By John Morris
When your neighbor mocks you or degrades your faith...

Ephesians 6:12

For our struggle is not with flesh and blood but with the principalities, with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens.

Over the last few years, Christians have been attacked and persecuted by outside forces.  We see this in the evening news almost weekly.  This attack however has been going on for 2000 years.  Paul understood this when he addressed the Ephesians. He emphasized that the fight that Christians must defend themselves against comes not only from worldly powers but with spiritual ones as well.  But even when we, as Christians, face persecution from other institutions, governments, different faith backgrounds, world leaders, local governments, even a neighbor, we are to combat these with love, truth, faith, righteousness, and Holy Scripture.  We are not to combat these forces with violence.  But turning the other cheek is tough.  When your neighbor mocks you or says something that degrades your faith, when you are pressured to do something at your work that is against your values, when your government wants to pass laws that go against your beliefs or degrades life, then we must fight the good fight in faith.  The biggest fight is with sin itself.  You must be able to conquer sin in your own life before you can help others.  Pray for the armor of God to be strong in your heart.
