Jude 17:21
Build yourself up in your most holy faith; pray in the Holy Spirit. Keep yourselves in the love of God and wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ
It is in the waiting that we can grow spiritually. Yesterday, I waited for stop lights in slow moving traffic. I waited in the school pickup line, when I was especially hungry. Then at home, I waited for the frozen chicken to defrost so I could marinate it for dinner. I wait for the family to come home from work and school. Ha! That's alot of waiting time isn't it?
I have learned to pray when I wait. I pray for those who are impatient in traffic, I pray for the one I am waiting to pick up and for the one who cuts the pickup line to get to their child sooner. I pray for the ones who wait at the intersections for someone's spare change, and I wonder what they've eaten. I offer a prayer for the ones who wait at the bus stops. What I've learned is that by "actively waiting", that is looking around and praying for those who come to mind or those you see, time passes by much more pleasantly than when I impatiently watch the minutes tick-tock or constantly check my phone for updates.
