A Little Becomes A Lot

By John Morris
Have you ever uttered the phrase....

John 6:9

"There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what good are these for so many?"

Have you ever uttered the phrase, "There's no way we can do that!" "That" can be anything you've faced that seemed impossible.  I see that often in my own life.  I personally don't always live what I preach, being turn it over to God.  I want to do things on my own terms.  There is a balance that we need to have to go into something big, that being hope vs. reality.

In today's Gospel reading, the disciples are faced with feeding the crowds.  Jesus asks them what they should do. Immediately they turn to money to solve the problem.  But Jesus has other ideas.  He wants to show them that all of their needs will be met if they trust in him.  For me, the key is the little boy who gave all he had, loaves and fishes, to share.  He was generous. Whether he knew it or not, his little gift to the community did more than anyone could imagine.  What spoke to me in this passage was that if everyone gave just a little of what they had, the entire community could be a better place. We also read in this passage that there were many sick people.  There were also many hungry.  Many families must have come ill-prepared for the day.  Jesus's followers felt obligated to help.  We sometimes feel the same way when unexpectedly faced with being the host.  How do you act/react?  Are you quick to help, or do you say, "Well, you should have come prepared."?  Use today to be ready to help those in need.
