A Good Deal is Not Always a Good Deal

Proverbs 21: 6

Whoever makes a fortune by a lying tongue is chasing a bubble over deadly snares.

Everyone loves getting a good deal or making a bit of cash. Whether it's by clipping coupons and waiting for the BOGOs or selling that old bedroom set on Craigslist. Getting a deal has become such an obsession that there is a temptation to swindle. We post the photo of the furniture but don't mention the damage that isn't visible. Or we strong arm the manager to give us a better deal else we walk. There comes a point where the money becomes more important than our honor.

The danger in this is made very clear by this verse from Proverbs. It's like chasing a bubble over deadly snares. The bubble is delicate and fleeting, like a fortune built on dishonesty. And those deadly snares, not only will they take out the bubble, but they'll also mess up the person trying to navigate over them. As Christians, may our word be good, our hearts, genuine and our intentions, honest.
