October's Focus: Respect Life!

October is National Respect Life Month

"You created every part of me; you knit me together in my mother's womb. When my bones were being formed, carefully put together in my mother's womb, when I was growing there in secret, you knew that I was there - you saw me before I was born. The days allotted to me had all been recorded in your book, before any of them ever began."  Psalm 139: 13-16

Spirit FM joins with Catholics throughout our nation to bring awareness of issues that threaten the dignity of human life in the United States and the rest of our world "and join together to witness to the inherent equality and transcendent value of every human begin." (USCCB)  We will visit with organizations and air interviews with the people in our community who are making a difference and ensuring that no individual's voice is silenced.

We'll begin the month at the Foundations of Life Gala on October 1st.  Foundations of Life Pregnancy Centers offer support to women of all ages who are facing unplanned pregnancies.

"All praise to you, Oh Lord, for all these brother and sister creatures."  October 5th, we'll join our fur friends and their guardians from around the Bay area to celebrate the Feast of St. Francis (the patron saint's feast day is officially celebrated on October 4th) with the annual Blessing of the Animals, at The Franciscan Center in Tampa. Many stories abound about the life of St. Francis and his love for animals and his humility towards all nature.   Check out our Community Calendar for a Blessing of the Animals event near you!
The middle of the month will have us speechless to show our unity with thousands of individuals throughout our nation that that will give up their voice for a day in "Silent Solidarity" for the children who have had their voices silenced through abortion.  For more information on Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity please click here.
October is also Domestic Violence Awareness month (a key focus of Respect Life).   The statistics on domestic violence in America are pretty overwhelming:  1 in 4 women will be a victim.  1 in 3 people are affected by domestic violence.  Staff from the Family Justice Center (FJC) as well as a chaplain will be stopping by in mid-October to share valuable information and resources with Spirit FM listeners. And we finish October as we began; praying for a greater respect for all life with the international movement 40 Days for Life; which kicked off its annual campaign on September 28th and will conclude November 2nd.
