Pope appoints auxiliary bishop to Ho Chi Minh City Archdiocese

Pope Francis made an appointment on Saturday in Vietnam.  He nominated Fr. Joseph Do Manh Hung, the chancellor and secretary of the Archdiocese of Ho Chi Minh City as Auxiliary Bishop of the same archdiocese.  The 58-year old priest will be assisting Archbishop Paul Bùi Van Ð?c.  Fr. Joseph was born on Sept 15, 1957, in Saigon in what is today Ho Chi Minh City.  After attending St. Joseph’s minor seminary of Ho Chi Minh City (1968-1976), he continued his studies at St. Joseph’s major seminary (1976-1982).  From 1993 to 1998, he was in Paris, France, studying theology at the Institut Catholique, from where he obtained a doctorate.Following his priestly ordination on Aug. 30, 1990, Fr. Joseph he was assigned several responsibilities, among them, assistant parish priest and professor at the major seminary (1998 – 2011), and vice rector of the major seminary (2011-2014). From ‎‎2001 he has been in charge of the Association Priests of Prado; and from 2005 he has been secretary of the Vietnam bishops’ commission for the clergy and seminarians.  Since 2014, Fr. Joseph has been the chancellor and secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Archdiocese.
