Sister Veronika finally laid to rest

The body of the late Sr. Veronika Theresia Racková was finally buried last Friday in the diocesan cemetery of St Joseph’s parish Lutaya, South Sudan, about 170 Kilometres south-west of the capital Juba.Sr. Veronika, 58, a member of the Missionary Congregation of the Servants of the Holy Spirit (SSpS) succumbed to her wounds on 20 May after being shot at in South Sudan. “The real home for every Christian is in heaven,” Bishop Erkolano Lodu Tombe, of Yei Diocese told mourners during the burial of Sr. Veronika. “Every person in this world is a foreigner,” the Bishop added. Sr. Veronika, 58, a member of the Missionary Congregation of the Servants of the Holy Spirit (SSpS) succumbed to her wounds on 20 May after being shot at in South Sudan. 

“The real home for every Christian is in heaven,” Bishop Erkolano Lodu Tombe, of Yei Diocese told mourners during the burial of Sr. Veronika. “Every person in this world is a foreigner,” the Bishop added. This is according to information made available to Radio Vatican’s Africa Service by South Sudan’s Catholic Radio Network.

Bishop Lodu expressed sadness at the death of Sr. Veronika but also the satisfaction that she was being buried among the people she loved and served. He thanked the Faithful of Yei Diocese, well wishes and the government for helping with burial arrangements.

Bishop Lodu described Sr. Veronika as a loving and caring doctor who worked tirelessly for the service of the needy people of South Sudan.
Thousands of mourners from different parts of South Sudan, various Church denominations and a notable number of Muslims turned up for the burial Sr. Veronika. 

Requiem Mass for her soul was held on Saturday at Yei’s Christ the King Cathedral.
