WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Donald Trump declared Wednesday the deadly chemical attack in Syria crossed "many, many lines" and abruptly transformed his thinking about Syrian President Bashar Assad. Still, he pointedly refused to say what action the U.S. might take in response....
"Hills and Valleys" by Tauren Wells isn't really about Wednesdays but it seems like an appropriate addition to any "hump day" (wink wink) playlist. Be inspired to finish your day strong with this acoustic performance video of the song.
Introduction: The Church celebrates this sixth Sunday of Lent as both Palm Sunday and Passion Sunday. This is the time of year we stop to remember and relive the events which brought about our redemption and salvation. What we commemorate and relive during this week is not just Jesus’ dying and rising, but our own dying and rising in him, which will result in our healing, reconciliation, and redemption.  Attentive participation in the Holy Week liturgy will deepen our relationship with God, increase our Faith and strengthen our lives as disciples of Jesus. Today’s liturgy combines contrasting moments, one of glory, the other of suffering:  the royal welcome of Jesus in Jerusalem and the drama of His trial, culminating in His crucifixion, death and burial. The Holy Week liturgies present us with the actual events of the dying and rising of Jesus. Just as Jesus did, we, too, must lay down our lives freely by actively participating in the Holy Week liturgies.&nb...
(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis met on Wednesday with English Cardinal Vincent Nichols and four Muslim leaders from Britain who came to highlight the deep-rooted interfaith relations among the different religious communities in the UK today. For the past three decades, Nichols and other Catholic leaders have been working to develop strong ties with local Muslim communities. Among some of the practical, grass roots initiatives that have resulted are the setting up of shared food banks for the needy and the welcoming of newly arrived refugee families.Just two weeks ago, Cardinal Nichols stood side by side with the Archbishop of Canterbury plus Muslim and Jewish leaders in London to condemn the terror attack at the Houses of Parliament. As prayers were said for the victims, the cardinal read out a message from Pope Francis offering condolences to the grieving families and solidarity with the whole nation.Just ahead of the papal audience in the Vatican, Philippa Hitchen sat down with Card...
Malaysia's national human rights panel on April 4 expressed concern over more than 600 deaths at immigration detention centres and prisons over the last two years, and called for immediate reform.  In its 2016 annual report, the panel, known by its Malay acronym, Suhakam, said there were more than 100 deaths in immigration detention centres and 521 deaths in prisons in 2015 and 2016. Twelve people died in police lock-ups in 2015. The previous week, Reuters cited documents from Suhakam  saying 118 foreigners, including undocumented workers, refugees and asylum seekers, had died at detention centres in the last two years.  More than half the dead were from Myanmar.  Suhakam said deaths mostly stemmed from diseases in all prisons and detention centres, where the government should look to improve conditions and healthcare.  "There is little interest in the human rights of detainees," said Chairman Razali Ismail. "This attitude is reflec...

Indonesia has the capacity provide sustainable and equitable healthcare to its citizens, but access and quality of services stand on the way, the United Nations has said.  “Despite commendable efforts, availability, access to and quality of health services remains a challenge in a country where population is spread throughout thousands of islands and remote areas,” the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right to health, Dainius Puras, said on April 4.  He urged Indonesian authorities to address such challenges “with the highest level of political commitment so that health system guarantees all core elements of the right to health.” Concluding a two-week visit to the Southeast Asian country, Puras stressed: “Increased investments in healthcare only make sense if the system is efficient, transparent, accountable, and responsive to those who use it.” He urged the Government to increase investment in health.  He also pointe...
