(Vatican Radio) Filipino bishops are calling on leaders and on all men and women of goodwill to pursue a path that leads to peace.In a statement approved by the Bishops of Mindanao where the military has been conducting air strikes in Marawi, on Mindanao island, after it was overrun by islamist militants.The region is a stronghold for the local Maute group, which has pledged allegiance to the so-called Islamic State.Fighting erupted after the army tried to capture a top militant leader whom IS has allegedly designated its leader in the Philippines. When the raid failed, dozens of gunmen came out on to the streets of Marawi, reportedly flying IS flags. Buildings were burned, prison inmates freed and hostages taken as the militants battled troops across the city. Rome, Italy, May 27, 2017 / 03:02 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Priests in Iraq are helping reconstruct around 13,000 homes in the Plain of Nineveh which have been damaged or destroyed by ISIS so that Christians will have a place to come back to.To accomplish this, the Pontifical Foundation Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) has created a Commission for the Reconstruction of Nineveh.  Besides celebrating Mass, the priests also serve as surveyors and obtain electric service and materials for the reconstruction of homes. The first work is being done in places that ISIS occupied for a short time and where there is not a lot of material damage.One of the members of this project is Fr.
