Catholic church leaders in Sierra Leone are calling for peaceful and credible general elections slated for 7 March 2017. In a recent Pastoral Letter, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference appealed to priests, religious and lay faithful to promote unity, reconciliation and peace. The bishops also urged all Sierra Leoneans, especially those who are of voting age, “to strongly reject all acts of violence, unnecessary provocations, various forms of fraud that distort results, as well as anything that can lead to destabilization and disorder.”Sierra Leone has held three peaceful general elections since the end of the civil 15 years ago.
