Catholic Bishops of the Ibadan Ecclesiastical Province in Nigeria have concluded their first plenary meeting of the year, Tuesday.In a pastoral communiquè issued after the meeting, the Bishops condemned the killings in Southern Kaduna state by suspected Fulani herdsmen. They also speak out about the desperation among Nigerians as a result of insecurity and unfulfilled electoral promises on the economy in the country.“The freefall of the naira (local currency) is another force tightening the noose around the neck of ordinary Nigerians, reducing their purchasing power and complicating their woes even further. (Vatican Radio) The Secretary for Relations with States in the Secretariat of State of the Holy See, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, is recently returned from an official visit to Japan. The CBCI representatives on Tuesday met the Indian Prime Minister at his office in the Parliament in New Delhi to discuss  issues related to the Christian Community in the country. Cardinal Baselios Cleemis, the President of Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India, Cardinal George Alancherry, the Major Archbishop of the Syro Malabar Church and Cardinal Oswald Gracias, the President of CCBI, submitted requests for taking immediate steps for the release of Fr. Tom Uzhunallil who is in captivity since March 2016. The Prime Minister has assured the team of the necessary and immediate actions to be taken for the same. He has also informed the cardinals that the government holds a favourable attitude towards the visit of Pope Francis in India.
