Sr. Marie-Claire, a Franciscan religious sister, was killed in Bukavu this week on Tuesday as she worked in her office at a girls’ training centre that she was running. According to Jimmy Ndumba of “Beni Lubero Online,” two men wielding knives, on the afternoon of 29 November, scaled the wall of the Mater Dei Parish, burst into the office of Sr. Marie Claire and savagely stabbed her several times. They got away with some money belonging to the centre.Hundreds of furious residents later demonstrated at the parish seeking justice. Two men have since been apprehended and charged with the murder of Sr. Marie-Claire. After the Beatification of Blessed Engelmar Unzeitig in Germany on 24 September 2016, the Zambian unit of the Mariannhill congregation (CMM) this week celebrated a thanksgiving Mass for the beatification. It was also an opportunity to make known the newly Blessed of the Church to the faithful of the Archdiocese of Lusaka and Zambia. .The rainy day celebrations turned out to be a joyous and solemn occasion for the CMM family of priests, brothers, students and CMM Associates.The Holy Mass in honour of Blessed Engelmar prophetically took place at Englemar House of Formation in Lusaka. The house is situated about 7km south of the city centre.
